My name is Sheryl Ellinwood, I am an artist, breast cancer survivor and creator of the pinkempower bracelet. As any woman diagnosed with breast cancer knows, once you hear the words, "you have breast cancer", your mind goes numb. You are scheduled for tests, surgeries and scary treatments. Unfortunately, most women go through this process not really understanding their specific type of breast cancer, the medical procedures they are undergoing or why, and the risks and benefits associated with each treatment option. They often feel powerless against their breast cancer.
By educating myself through extensive research, and working in partnership with my doctors, I was able to avoid getting a treatment that probably would have cost me my life. I also learned what I could have done 5-10 years earlier that most likely would have prevented my breast cancer. Based on my own experience, and that of other breast cancer survivors who I have surveyed, I realized there was a need to compile this information in an easy to understand "guidebook" that would teach other women how to avoid getting the wrong treatment or avoid getting breast cancer in the first place.
This website will provide some of the important information on prevention and treatment options that I uncovered, but there is simply too much information to include on this website.
